In the heart of the
Rural District there is “Gola della Rossa and Frasassi” Park with
its beautiful gorges, natural and speleological paths, the green
hall of Scappuccia Valley. The Park and its 9167 hectares is the
biggest protected regional area and includes the Frasassi Caves
hypogeum complex.
The fascinating geological and speleological aspects, so important
for educational reasons, can be illustrated by filmed sequences in
the Park’s seat. Fossils and calcareous minute parts, visible where
rocks surface, reveal that millions years ago the area was a seabed.
In the Park a golden eagle nests and between wild species there are
wolf, goshawk, red kite, eagle owl.
Between cave dweller species there is not only geotriton, but also
Niphargus sp. a rare crustacean that populates the little lakes of
the caves.
The gorges rock ambient contains discontinuous vegetation made of
rare floristics species like Papulose Moheringia. The Papulose
Moheringia has got in these gorges the only one observatory in the
World. The protection of this environment aims to conserve the very
big value of nature-science, history and art. Tourist organisation
provides for couriers, expert guides, different stopover areas and a
paths network foe each kind of tours. |
